Finally, FINALLY. Guys, ok, you dont understand how excited I am about this. Jetpack people. Dude made a jetpack how it SHOULD freekin be done. I know those slow-ass things have been around for years, theres peole researching even now ways to make them more fuel efficient cause HELL the things cant even run for more than 17 minutes at most right now. And they are slow, they hover, shure, thats cool, but they are SLOW. This guy's got the goddamn buzz lightyear thing going on- now, it seems to require high altitude launch (and parachute for landing) but shit, the maneuvers and speed look great. Omg, no Idea guys.

It's warm. Rather warm.
This is not sit inside in front of the tv or computer weather.
This is lounge outside in the shade with friends, food, and cocktails weather. Light pasta, Jamaican food, tapas, light beer, mojitos.. Friends sitting around chatting.
So, who's with me? And, potentially more importantly, where?

As of an hour ago, California legislatures declared the ban on gay marriage was "discriminatory and unconstitutional". In 30 days, gays and lesbians will be allowed to marry once again! Woot!

So folks! You know what's right around the corner? If you guessed Origins, then you're right! (Technically just about any guess would be right but I am personally more concerned about Origins right now.)
What does that mean? Well. For one, there's a little shindig that Columbus in Darkness has every year from 5pm til...erm....well we wrap up at Midnightish but game play normally continues much later with drinks. That happens Wednesday through Saturday (June 25th is the starting day) for the main event. On Sunday there's normally a nice quiet game from about 6pm til...well...10ish. Sometimes you catch a glimpse of William Hung heading into the Cafe area attached to the Big Bar on 2, sometimes you just get some zombified gamers shuffling on by talking about their latest Apples to Apples conquest. It's always a mix!
Now, before the question about smoking is asked I am going to address it. Yes, smoking and roleplay outside is a go for this year. We were in discussion with the folks over on the otherside and as long as things are kept civil (hootin' and hollarin' doesn't help this, just sayin...) there shouldn't be a problem. As a quick heads up, review of the area has shown that it is actually a City Park and not owned by the Hotel. Roleplay Intoxicated At Your Own Risk Outside! Though, if the GAMA staff asks you to refrain just come let the STs know and we'll get something resolved.
I know sometimes a select few end up ruining it for everyone else so this year we've asked the LARP Director to have his folks record badge names and what not so we can persue things on our end if need be or be quite capable of confirming that said individuals have nothing to do with us!
As for the roleplay at the bar...well...apparently some folks from another LARP last year ruined it for the group. We had a little chat about that too in the conversation. They've agreed to approach the Crowne Plaza Hotel about the issue and get it all sorted out. We won't have a guarenteed answer until the week of the game and, if you are curious on Wednesday when you arrive, the STs will be made well aware of this information. (Plus, isn't the Camarilla all about upholding the Masquerade. Yanno, not letting on that we man-handle people for a living? :P)
Once again this year your feedback will be welcomed. Both good and bad! Just shoot an e-mail to origins.planning@gmail.com after the event and it'll be organized and presented to the Storytellers in a direct fashion. No, I am not a Storyteller. I'm just the guy they hired to do all the paperwork.
BUT WAIT!! THERE'S MORE!!
I was recently made aware that Much Ado About Everything will be running on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 11am until 4pm at the Crowne Plaza as well. What is this game, you ask? Well it is a OWbN Werewolf LARP. Under an Eerie Moon, Cleveland's Werewolf Game, has graciously decided to Host again. Score one for Cleveland!
Those of you who have a OWbN Werewolf PC will be welcomed, those of you who do not and still want to play will be welcomed, those of you who have never played before and want to learn will be welcomed....you get the point!
To be fair, I am sure they're going to kick up their own advertising campaign shortly.

1. I am dieting and exercising again. Mostly because I don't want to have to buy new clothes.
2. After two years, I'm picking up and redoing "The Fall," the storyline I wrote regarding the rebellion and the politics in Heaven that started the creation of Hell. What surprises me is that I thought I would have to start from scratch because I thought the details were sketchy when I first did this. It turns out that I have 60 to 70 pages of material already.
What's prompting me to do this was judging a short film for my festival on angels that rebelled and are battling each other. The acting, storyline and dialogue was absolutely horrible so in the midst of watching it, I imagined how I would do it better. That's when the story came back into my head and it looked more vivid than it did two years ago.
It also turns out that most of it was previous entries on my journal because I had just done the idea for fun. I am surprised that it was an idea I started two years ago.
3. Karmic Law 3.
Okay, so I already explained how Willpower can be used to move a person's destiny and that the cost for moving a person's Destiny is Karma. So how does Karma come back to affect your life?
( Thus when we think of good karma or bad karma, it's not really karma that is good or bad. Karma is an effect of our actions and aren't designated or marked as rewards or punishments when they do come back. It's more whether the effects of such karma come back to benefit us. )

... that's the title - it's 6213 words; just a little over 19 pages. This is my "final paper" for my science fiction class that ends tomorrow.
On Monday I learned that this little assignment was due Wednesday; I had barely formed an idea over the weekend for one of the essay prompts we were offered. I had been thinking the paper would be due the following Monday (the beginnign of Finals Week) at the earliest. After spending an hour or so trying to start the prompted essay (analyzing whether or not, in this case, Y.T. from Snow Crash acts from free will or if she is pushed by outside forces into events), I gave it up as a bad job and took Option B.
Since it's a sci-fi "appreciation" class more than an intense literary-analysis type deal (like English Lit. or something would be), the instructor gave us the option to engage in a little creative writing for our second required paper. The first had to be analytical (mine was a comparison of the dystopias in A Clockwork Orange and The Forever War), but the second could be fiction. Provided, of course, that it was solid creative writing - real top grade stuff. I sure hope this counts. I certainly wouldn't try to publish it anywhere, but I'm reasonably confident it'll fit the bill he's looking for.
I didn't have an idea what I might write if I took the Fiction Option. In describing the stuff he's gotten in the past, he says he's gotten some really polished pieces of fanfic based on one of the books we read during the semester. The only book I even considered writing fanfic from was Snow Crash - and then I just couldn't bring myself to do it. Then, lo and behold, salvation appears in the form of an outline. An outline of part of a story idea I had batted around a few months ago with raybrandle about humans reaching Mars and finding out that Martians exist and have been spoofing our probes to keep us from coming to fuck up their planet. So I started to write up a stripped-down version of that idea.
A couple false starts had to be ripped out and re-written, but each one gave me a little something, even if it was just a name for a character. Then I had to remind myself constantly that this was a short story, and it had to have an ending. I sacrificed over-generous descriptions and much characterization to these needs. I had to keep going back to cut out extraneous semi-crunchy science bits Ray and I had talked about - they were taking up too much space and time. In the end, after a very long seeming period (mostly the last six or seven hours or so) I am done. This is the first time I've actually gotten an ending onto a story in... just about EVER... or so it seems. The final product is definitely not as fleshed out and complicated as I would have liked, but for that I guess I would have had to start a couple years ago and have been living off a very generous publisher's advance during the process. But it's done; it's got a little science-crunch (more along the lines of crisped rice than granola, I admit) and some Hollywood flash - especially the ending.
I think I might be vaguely proud of this damn thing.

There are many acts of oddity that I have borne witness to on the lovely streets of San Francisco. Given some of my hobbies, there have also been some rather tremendous displays of geekery. I just saw something that fits well into both and yet somehow eclipses so much that has come before...
As I sat on the front porch, having a cigarette, a young woman of unknown asian decent (probably Chinese, given the area) steps into view, backwards, and squarely into a square on the sidewalk. Then she throws chops, or, as it's more commonly known, Ro-Sham-Bo. I'm not sure if she won or lost, but she then took a step back into the next square. This continues until she is out of sight. Soon after, a rather geeky boy (again of unknown asian decent) enters the picture and is apparently the other half of the equation.
Yes, folks, people were playing Ro-Sham-Bo to advance down the sidewalk, square by square.
I love San Francisco.

| Subject: | The OTHER Secret: Karmic Law posting 2 |
| Security: | Public |
In an earlier post, I wrote that the OTHER Secret of the Universe is "Karmic Law" or "The Law of Karma" and I wrote that karma is the cost of changing one's destiny.
I understand that it sounds a little too philosophical, so here, I explain the effect of HOW karma comes about. Karma does not happen just because you decide to do things differently for a day.
( What you wish to be and your destiny are not always the same thing. But you can change that, too. Not in the self-help way, either. )

Disclaimer: I don't know why I felt like writing this today. But I know that many people have asked me, "How can I become psychic?" I kind thought that it would be neat to write a textbook about it.
Then this popped out.
This is most likely a first in a series (provided that I not get bored and stick with it) on writings on the subject.
I was on my bike today when I contemplated the Secret. You know, that popular book that explains the secret to getting what you want out of life. In that book, it explains that the secret is the "law of attraction" and the book explains in detail how the laws of attraction work.
Although I liked the book, when I read the book, I felt like it was missing something and I never figured out what it was until now.
The book explains the law of attraction, which a person can take in order to attain what he or she wants, but it does not really explain the system of the Universe in which this particular law works. If this Universe were simply based on the law of attraction, we would face less resistance and effort into getting things.
So the OTHER Secret that I am going to write about is far more neutral, rather than from the perspective of a single person. So what's the OTHER Secret?

Rick bought himself a motorcycle - a 250cc Korean job. I rode it home for him after he bought it, since he'd never been on a bike before. Nice learning bike - not too torque-y and the transmission doesn't have a steep powerband or anything. It's a little more comfortable than the Ninja 250 I had, despite the low-set handlebars. Of course, Mark had to buy himself one too, so he could teach Rick how to ride. Just got back from cruising around town with them a bit. My Suzuki now has a little over 4000 miles on it.
Oh yeah, I made Lt. Col. on CoD4 and I'm closing in on Full Bird! Ha! You thought this post was CoD4-frei!

So... remember how we said we couldn't find any obit on Alex or anything?
Well, having checked on things, and all, we found out that Alex is NOT dead, she's in Germany. She graduated as an Airman and is now getting further education thru the military.
Someone thought it was a good idea to call Joe and tell him lies, telling him that she was dead. He recognized the number and the voice, and so he thought it was legit. Someone he thought was his friend, and someone who never called back to clarify that it was a joke.
Some people are really, really in need of a life.
